VICTORIA DIVISION BULLETIN: 24 NOVEMBER 2009

Dear colleagues,

As I write this Bulletin to remind you of next week’s end of year function I can tell you that the last PD event of the year running on November 25th this week on the topic of “Setting up Business as a Career Counsellor” now has over 20 registrations! This is a fantastic result and it is great to see quite a few new members attending and the event should prove to be a great success.

Now whilst I know we are all busy as work momentum picks up, work functions are crowding our diary and all those deadlines are quickly looming I trust that you haven’t forgotten to put the end of year function on December 2nd into your diary!!

There is only a week to go and at this stage there are only a few registrations for what should prove to be a great night of entertainment in a relaxing atmosphere. So please jump on the CDAA website using the link below to register for this event.

The details of the end of year function on December 2nd appear below so please register now. I have also included the reminder about committee positions becoming available at the February AGM.

VICTORIAN CDAA END OF YEAR CELEBRATION: CAREER RETROSPECTIVE - Wednesday 2 December 2009

The theme for this end of year function is to provide members to a Career Retrospective of two guests who have both enjoyed very diverse career paths. The presentation will follow initial career choices made and then follow key influences or events that led to new decisions and directions.

The Association has been very fortunate to secure the well-known ABC presenter Dr Gael Jennings and also Squadron Leader Andrew State from DFR to be the key note guests at this year’s event. You will all be assured of a very interesting and enjoyable function that will include many lucky ticket prize draws.

The event will also celebrate the conclusion of the 2009 Mentor Program and also launch the program for new members interested in participating in 2010.

A brief overview of our two speakers:

Dr Gael Jennings is a strategic advisor to federal, state and local government, specialising in media, communications, education, health, medicine, science, engineering and maths, a broadcaster in current affairs, an executive in science and factual TV, and a media/ communications consultant, author and speaker. Gael has just recently taken up a new role as CEO of Great Connections and you will learn all about this on the night.

Squadron Leader Andy State entered the Royal Air Force in June 1989, graduating from Royal Air Force College Cranwell in November 1989. Following specialist Supply and Movements training, his first tour was at Royal Air Force Waddington developing deployment support for the new E3-D Sentry (AWACS) fleet. Since that time he has enjoyed postings to the UK, European, Kenya, and other African postings. He has also been posted in Washington and then transferred from the RAF to the RAAF in 2007, and then had a stint at DMO which was a precursor before becoming the Senior Military Recruiting Officer for Victoria in January 2008.

MEMEBRSHIP OF VICTORIAN COMMITTEE:

As I said in the recent bulletin it would be great to see some new faces assist in some way to share the load. There are plenty of activities that can also be picked up without a formal role on the Committee and I would be pleased to hear from anyone who would like to discuss their involvement.

Please have a think about your involvement and perhaps consider attending next week's end of year function and chat with committee members or myself about any issues you might want to discuss.

And finally......

The Committee and I look forward to hosting you at next week’s end of year function and I hope to see many new faces attend this year.

Kind regards

Andrew Rimington

Divisional President
