Vivienne Brown will present a two hour seminar that will enable participants to try various approaches, work with others and ask questions.
Our country currently faces the prospect of rising unemployment, business cutbacks or closures and widening social inequality. This will require a different approach from workers and businesses.
Those who work in the career development, employability, skills and learning systems industries are well placed to assist workers and businesses to cope with these changes. However, we will be required to create a new paradigm of support and expertise as well as develop advanced practitioner capabilities.
A return to improved economic growth and workplace productivity will be influenced by our capacity to assist individuals make robust career decisions and develop a career agility. Equally we can support businesses to develop strategies that encourage staff to have the self-confidence to create and take effective work and learning decisions.
INTERNATIONAL SPEAKER
Vivienne Brown, Head of Policy and Strategy Skills Development, Scotland will suggest strategies which we can adapt within our own work context to respond to today’s career challenges.
Drawing on the strategic shift being made by Careers Scotland to find new solutions to entrenched challenges by equipping individuals with career management skills she will:
- outline the range of integrated services in the new Skills Development Scotland
- demonstrate existing and new products which support this ambition.
- explain Careers Scotland’s Approach to Guidance, the cornerstone of their professional career development
- describe the way different products and approaches are used to engage clients in the skills building learning process.
Vivienne is a well-regarded figure in the international career development industry and has contributed to career guidance developments throughout the world. In her position as Head of Policy and Strategy, she is responsible for developing and "positioning" Careers Scotland’s strategies through engaging in policy discussions with the Scottish Government and relationship building with prominent national stakeholders. This involves making key connections for Careers Scotland through knowledge management and commissioning research.
Vivienne is currently President of the UK Institute of Career Guidance and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts. She also chairs the Scottish Guidance Network.
