Presidents Note – Janine Watt
What an exciting event- our very first e-bulletin. You may be aware that earlier this year I sought nominations for the President’s position from members without success. I am continuing for this year as President with the view to hand the reigns to another professional member in 2012. Fortunately Kim Davis has offered to assist me and is responsible for this first newsletter. She has willingly taken on the marketing/publishing role. What a relief!!!. We are now in line with our Southern Divisions. If any other members would like to be more involved, there are numerous roles within the Division which you could fill. I’d love to hear from you.
Welcome to our first edition e-bulletin
Yes this is our first NT e-bulletin and we hope it will become a valuable resource for members to share topics and items of interest, each month. We plan to include in this e-bulletin some of the information published in other Divisional newsletters which is relevant to NT members - forthcoming webinairs, links to media articles etc. However we are also keen that it includes topics specific to the needs and interests of our members in the NT and to that end we will need your support. Please send any items you would like included or indeed any ideas for how we can make this e-bulletin a relevant and valuable resource to you in your work.
Welcome to new members
A very belated, yet warm welcome, to Liz Grylis who joined as a professional member in March of this year. The NT Division now has 8 members and while we are small in numbers, our valuable contribution to the field is not diminished and we look forward to learning more about the skills, talents of each of our members through our Member Profile section each month. You will shortly receive a short questionnaire which, if you are willing to complete, will provide us with some valuable information about the great contribution you can and do make to the field. From the information gleaned we will feature a member each month so as we can all begin to gain a better appreciation of who our local colleagues are and perhaps even begin more regular networking and collaboration on projects of shared interest! Keep a look out for the profile information questions coming to you soon!
Career Expo – Ring to Volunteer!
The CDAA is very pleased to be part of the ‘Growing the Territory Career Expo’ this year. This career event delivers CDAA career practitioners the opportunity to meet thousands of career seekers over a one-day and one evening expo event.
We will have a stall at the Expo on Wednesday 24th August from 5.00pm – 8.00pm, Janine, Kim and Deborah will be available to meet visitors and prospective clients. If you would also like to volunteer to participate at this event you will have a fantastic opportunity to:
- promote your own practice or service
- meet 100s of adults interested in career development
- promote our industry – explaining why career development is essential and
- promote the CDAA as a professional association
If you have any questions about the Expo or would like to volunteer to help, please contact Kim: kim_davis@bigpond.com or 0400021888
The CDAA Leadership Forum
The forum in Canberra last month generated a lot of excitement and discussion about the future of the CDAA. The National office is preparing a full report for circulation to all members however by way of brief summary, the themes to have emerged most strongly from the Forum focus on:
- Developing a research and evidence base
- Strengthening partnerships
- Developing a consistent language about what we do
- Strengthening branding and marketing
- Expanding leadership development and mentoring
- Seeking to better understand member skills, expertise and needs
If you’d like to contribute your ideas to any of the above themes please let us know. There will be a follow up webinair later in September and an opportunity for you to participate in discussions then. Please let us know if you are interested.

CPD
We hope to develop some local PD activities over coming months however in the interim; the webinairs offered through the National office are well worth investing in to build up those PD hours. Let us know if you require assistance in recording your hours or have any suggestions for future PD activities.
