National Partnerships on Youth and Transitions – Your thoughts?

DEEWR is seeking feedback from CDAA members on the National Partnerships agreement on Youth and Transitions. To enable those practitioners who are involved in those partnerships to comment on your experiences to date, we have developed a short survey regarding specific elements of the Partnerships.

Please take a few minutes to complete the survey by Monday 31st October by visiting: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/WGHJ3BR

CDAA National Executive Committee will collate all feedback and report to be sent to DEEWR in November.

Save the Date – CDAA End of Year Event – Thursday 24th November, 2011
Put it in your diaries! - A chance to catch up with CDAA colleagues and reflect on goals for the next year. Full details to follow shortly.

Reinvent Your Career Expo Success

35 practitioners came together, responding to over 600 enquiries, delivering 10 workshops and 6 seminar topics over the 2 days of the Expo. The excellent response from practitioners meant that we were able to set up 10 tables all day Saturday. Sadly our numbers were fewer on Sunday and despite some Herculean effort we still had to disappoint many enquirers on Sunday afternoon. Some chose to be contacted after the Expo which were are now systematically processing. It was fantastic to see so many new faces which is a great sign of the vibrancy of the Association. With continued support next year we can build even a better response. All ready we are putting in place facilities to capture enquiry data electronically so that we can more effectively and efficiently respond to requests.

This year we had a lot more enquiries about CDAA, professional standards and the Find a Practitioner function on the CDAA website. I also noticed increased interest in CDAA opinion on trends within the industry. This is sound evidence that CDAA is becoming known as a lead Association and voice within the industry. With the support from members like which we had this year this can only grow.

In addition to the tireless workers many thanks must go to Laurence Fleming, Julie Gee and Narelle Hess for their tremendous organisational capacity. To Nic and his team at RYC for their continued support and the our sponsors without whom we wouldn’t have the opportunity to so successfully market the CDAA brand.

Allan Gatenby,CDAA NSW Division vice President

‎ BRAD Gillespie is hoping his 10-week pre-apprenticeship course will help land him a job with Ausgrid. The 18-year-old from Quakers Hill and Seven Hills’ Kieran Hottes were two of 25 graduates from the seventh annual Ausgrid Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander pre-apprenticeship program.

Clearer path offers brighter future to students who inspire mates
FOR too long indigenous school students have failed to realise their potential, often succumbing to peer pressure and trying to avoid school. But a pilot program aims to break the cycle with a focus on the brightest.

One hundred and fifty of the country’s future doctors, nurses and allied health professionals spent their long weekend bonding and learning at a Dunedoo farm as part of a program aimed at luring the next generation of health workers to careers in the bush.‎

NSW job seekers battling for limited openings
The chances of getting a job in mining regions are steadily improving as the resources boom takes off, but job seekers in NSW and Victoria face far more competition.

Job cuts: coming to a suburb near you
It's the prickle at the back of the neck felt by mortgage-belt bank workers in Sydney and Melbourne: the forthcoming rounds of financial services' job cuts. The banks' declining profit growth tells you we are likely to see sizeable redundancies soon in the largest banks. In a small way, some lay-offs have already begun.
