We are going to explore and challenge our thinking and definitions of what Talent Management is and potentially what it should be to meet the future needs of business. This informal presentation will discuss the role of career management and career development from the organisations and the individual’s perspective.
Key learnings will include:
- Why talent management is important
- An understanding of current practice and the need for strategic talent management
- A reflection of how well Australian organisations embrace the talent management challenge
- The role of the employee and career development coaches in the ultimate solution
This presentation will address the specific CDAA competencies of Career Development Theory, Labour Market, Information and Resource Management and Professional Practice.
Presenter: Sam Sheppard, Executive General Manager, Talent and Development – Commonwealth Bank
Sam’s interesting career started in the UK with her BA (Hons) in Psychology from Sheffield University and a Master’s in Occupational Psychology from Nottingham University in 1992.
Her experience includes HR manager UK for Eastman Chemical Company and nearly 10 years with General Electric. With time spent in Europe, USA and Asia her HR experience includes manufacturing, financial services and corporate sectors.
Sam was appointed Vice president Human Resources in January 2002 driving the HR strategy across all GE business in Australia and New Zealand. Previously HR leader, Asia Pacific of GE Polymershapes where she initially managed the integration of that company into GE plastics. From 1999 to 2001, Sam was an HR manager with GE Corporate Capital in Europe. Her original appointment to GE Lighting as European HR manager was in 1997.
She is a member of AHRI and a graduate member of the UK Institute of Personnel and Development. Sam is married to Mark and has a four year old son Mackenzie.
