2010 Awards - Nominations open now
Miles Morgan Award for Excellence in Career Development 2010

Miles Morgan Australia in conjunction with the Career Development Association of Australia is inviting nominations for the 2010 award which will be presented at the Annual CDAA Conference dinner in Adelaide in April 2010.

Miles Morgan Australia Pty Ltd provides $1,000 for the award, which is open to financial Professional Members of the Career Development Association of Australia working in the career development field.

Career Development Professional Endorsement 2010

CDAA Career Development Professional LogoIn 2010 the CDAA launched the new CDAA Career Development Professional Endorsement. This endorsement, exclusively for the use of Professional and Fellow members of the CDAA, is a stamp of professionalism and recognition that practitioners can use to stand out in the market place.

LEARNING - TO UNLOCK THE POTENTIAL OF INDIVIDUALS ACROSS THE LIFE-SPAN. HANDS-ON TOOLS FOR CAREER TEACHERS AND PRIVATE PRACTITIONERS

Mr Nigel Phillips - Careers Fast Track, Career Life College

Learning is central to all human endeavors. However, the limitations of the human nervous system mean that our ability to learn is often hampered by both internal and external interference. This is witnessed in our educational systems, our organisations and in society generally when individuals are ‘locked out’ of the ability to achieve their full potential. At the epicenter of the individuals’ ‘disengagement’ is their ability, or lack thereof, to learn. It is interesting to note that when addressing the disengagement of individuals in both educational and labour market systems the focus will often be upon access to resources. However, access to resources, more often than not, is simply a distraction from the underlying issues.

This workshop will examine learning as a meta-competency that will ultimately determine the sustainable success of individuals, organizations and whole communities. Within this dynamic, the career development practitioner has a vital role to unlock the potential of individuals and to help them to continually expand their capacity to create the results they truly desire across the life-span. You will leave this workshop with:

  • an understanding of some of the theories and perspectives behind career-life learning
  • an understanding of the “patterns” of behaviour that influence learning
  • an understanding of three different tools for clients at all ages
  • Listening Patterns
  • Advanced Questioning Patterns
  • Learn-ability analysis
  • a framework to integrate these tools and methodologies into your own practice

This workshop is informed by the application of this methodology with students, adults and in corporate settings.

Changes to CDAA Membership Requirements for New Members

CDAA, as a member of the Career Industry Council of Australia, is required to implement the Professional Standards for Career Development Practitioners by January, 2012. CDAA fully supports the professional standards and has commenced implementation of changes to requirements for new members from the start of this year.

It is particularly important for you to note that as an existing member you will continue to retain your current membership after 2012, provided you meet continuing professional development requirements and, of course, work in accordance with CDAA’s Code of Ethics.

Membership Requirements for Practitioners joining the CDAA from 1 January 2010

  Associate Professional
Qualifications Completed at least component two of the Australian Career Development Studies Bachelor degree qualification in a discipline relevant to career development*
Work Experience Currently work in the career development field Significant career development experience (not less than two years full-time equivalent in the five-year period preceding the date of application)

* Relevant qualifications can include professional disciplines in psychology, counselling, education, human resources, rehabilitation, and social work.

This new Keep Australia Working service provides access to information for job seekers, employers and Australians whose employment has been affected by the global recession.

The website allows job seekers to access detailed information about programs and initiatives that can help them find work, or find support if they have lost their job. The information provided on the website can also assist employers to re-train and retain workers in the current economic climate.

Telephone support is also available, which can provide personalised assisted service to individuals to guide them through the range of initiatives available. Eligible individuals can also access professional Career Advice. Translation and TTY assistance is also available.
