DEEWR Scholarships for Career Advisers

Applications for the DEEWR Scholarships for Career Advisers now open. The Industry Placement Scholarships provide $10,000 to enable a short-term industry placement to further successful applicants' skills or knowledge of workplaces, industry sectors and/or occupations. The Study Scholarships provide $5000 for successful applicants to undertake postgraduate study in the career education field in 2010.

Both types of scholarships are available to career advisers/practitioners at Australian schools, TAFEs and universities. Applications for the 2010 DEEWR Scholarships for Career Advisers open 1 June and close 24 July 2009.

NAGCAS Conference 2009 - Building Career Resilience: Strategies in Challenging Times

6 – 9 December 2009, The University of Newcastle, NSW

The NAGCAS Conference 2009 will bring together university careers service staff, industry and professional bodies, HR staff responsible for graduate recruitment, workforce planning, strategic workforce management, professional association representatives and other parties involved in the graduate employment process (professional associations, recruiters, software providers etc) from across Australasia.

Conference Theme: The conference will explore career resilience - How will students survive and thrive in a shrinking labour market? How will career services build relationships within labour markets? What role will career services and their staff have to play at the institutional and political levels?

The following sub-themes will guide the structure of the conference proceedings and presentations:

  • Back to Basics: new ways of maintaining and growing employer relationships

Australian Psychotherapy and Counselling Workforce Study
The Australian Psychotherapy and Counselling Workforce Study is part of a large international study developed by the Collaborative Research Network (CRN) of the Society for Psychotherapy Research (SPR) and examines the development and practice of professional psychotherapists and counsellors from over 25 different countries.

This study is important as the first comprehensive survey of the profession in Australia. Government advisers have indicated an urgent need for a more comprehensive profile of the profession to inform future policy and planning around the provision and funding of mental health and community services.
