I believe in the CDAA and its mission for our
profession. Being involved with CDAA has
provided me with considerable professional
growth. This coupled with the personal satisfaction
I have received from being part of CDAA
continues to fuel my passion for our industry. I
respect the time and effort necessary to make
CDAA such a great organization.
We must seek to make CDAA as responsive as
possible to the needs of its members. I hope to
help make it not only worthy of the time the
members invest in its activities, but also one that
they will recommend to their colleagues.
Promoting career development and providing our
clients with the highest level of service are my
goals, by expanding the CPD opportunities for our
members and doing everything I can to promote
the diverse interests of CDAA’s members.
I am impressed with the commitment,
professionalism, and enthusiasm of all in CDAA. I
feel compelled to continue my participation
through the secretary position. As a stickler for
clear language and documentation, I believe I am
well-suited for this. I pledge to work with you, and
continue to speak up for our members' interests.
Thank you for your consideration.
Brian HANSON
I submit myself for your consideration and support
for the above position. As a current member of the
NEC (Membership) and a former Secretary of the
WA Division, I have served the members of the
association since 2006 with enthusiasm and pride.
My record as Membership Officer over the last
term reflects a willingness to approach tasks and
issues with sensitivity and independent thought. I
am always willing to look outside the square and
see change as an opportunity and not as a threat.
I believe that these positive traits have made my
contribution on the NEC both valuable and
memorable.
In the spirit of succession planning, I now consider
that I am able to build upon these experiences to
further serve the membership at the highest level
as an Executive Office Bearer.
As a semi-retired ‘portfolio worker’ I work primarily
as a career development private practitioner.
Currently this involves delivering career transition
services to those affected by redundancies. Other
current activities include delivering safety
leadership training/coaching and conducting
quality management systems audits. Between
2003 – 2007 I was a Careers Advisor and VET
coordinator in a large secondary school.
As Chair of the Governance and Registration
Board Sub-Committees, and member of the Ethics
Sub-Committees, I will work hard to ensure that
CDAA continues to grow in stature within the
Australian and International communities as a preeminent
career development professional organisation. I shall also look forward to acting as
a mentor to those new to the NEC as a result of
this election.
In summary, I have served at the Divisional and
National Executive level. I have both the time and
inclination to dedicate time and energy to work in
the interests of the CDAA in the role of Secretary
and I now, respectfully, seek your support in
favour of my nomination.
Brian Hanson FCDAA
General Committee Member (Divisional Coordinator)
Drew THOMAS
My work as a career development practitioner
began in the secondary school system as a career
counsellor, a role I subsequently moved to TAFE. I
have subsequently worked in VET management,
including project roles involved with the Career
Development Blueprint and the systemic provision
of career development.
I became involved in CDAA some ten years ago,
initially as a Committee Member, and in recent
years as SA Division President. That role has
offered the chance to participate in NEC firstly as
a guest, and currently as a full member. Apart
from contributing to the general business of the
organisation, I feel I have had significant influence
in the name change process, and in the short-lived
inclusion of Division Presidents as full members of
NEC.
My motivation towards working for that inclusion
was driven by my observation that our national
organisation is as healthy as the health of its
divisions, and that national direction setting and
decision making must be informed by divisional
needs and agendas.
My passion to have the divisional system work
effectively and productively is my reason for
seeking your support for me to undertake this role.
If elected, I commit to regularly communicating
with Division Presidents and Committees, forming
in a collaborative and inclusive manner a divisional
view, and advocating strongly for that view within
NEC. As our shared usage of the e-zine and other
electronic tools increases, there is also the
opportunity to seek more widely the views of our
membership.
More generally, I want to support CDAA in
providing excellent benefits to members, and
increasing the profile of Career Development as a
vital source of economic and social benefit at state
and national levels.
I hope you will choose to support my nomination.

Judith LEESON
My passion for career development was ignited
twenty years ago, and since then I have been
inspired to develop professionally, collaborate with
my colleagues across Australia, and work towards
a national system of community-based providers
who could supplement the wonderful work of
career education teachers, and practitioners
working in private practice, government, industry
and community programs.
In three terms as SA Division President, five terms
as National President, and one as immediate Past
President I have worked tirelessly to ensure that
the issues and concerns of the Divisions,
representing the grass-roots membership, were
always considered. The strength of the new
structure of the National Executive Committee is
dependent on a strong, effective and inclusive
liaison with the Divisions. My history of
collaboration with the Divisions in the past
demonstrates my strong support and
understanding of the critical role they play in the
affairs of the Career Development Association of
Australia. CDAA can only flourish with the support
and confidence of the Divisions representing
regional and local issues.
Since 1991, in my private practice, I have been
involved with clients across the lifespan, working
with very disadvantaged people who have
disengaged from secondary education, are
returning to the workforce after a voluntary or
involuntary absence, those who are underemployed,
have been retrenched, or are
experiencing career dissatisfaction. I have been
involved in influencing policy changes at
Commonwealth level, stimulating research and
sharing best practice for nearly two decades, and
would enjoy the opportunity to contribute to the
growth and development of the Divisions.
I love to share insights, encourage and mentor
career development practitioners and contribute to
individual and community development. Together
we can change the world and know that even in
times of economic hardship we have opportunities
to contribute to building individual and community
capacity.
