| It is official: AACC becomes CDAA - Putting Career First |
At the recent National AGM in Hobart, AACC members
unanimously approved
to change the name of the association to the Career Development Association of Australia (CDAA).
Our Association is committed to being inclusive, consultative, collaborative and is now context appropriate and practitioner owned and endorsed. The new name more accurately describes the present industry, will attract new members and provide continued impetus for growth. A name that encompasses a broader spectrum of the industry will encourage greater participation.
Internationally, and nationally through the recent introduction of the Professional Standards for Australian Career Development Practitioners, we use the agreed terms ‘ Career Development ’ and ‘ Career Development Practitioner". The name change is consistent with the Professional Standards, and is internationally recognised.
Let’s move forward, proudly recognised internationally as a peak organisation committed to excellence in the delivery of career development services .
Dr Peter Carey - CDAA National President
As you will appreciate, it will take some time to roll out the various up-dates that the name change now necessitates, such as the website and e-bulletin. So in the meantime, celebrate the coming of a new era for our association and watch out as our exciting new look is rolled out over the coming weeks. |

| 2009 CDAA Conference - Melbourne |
Career Development Association of Australia
18th National Career Conference
Wed 15 – Fri 17 April 2009
Grand Hyatt Hotel, Melbourne, Victoria
Get Smart: Career Development value adds for people and business! is the central theme of the 2009 AACC conference. This conference is about the positive value-adding outcomes of career development for our students, clients, for working people at all stages of the lifespan, and for the nation’s businesses and industry. This inspiring theme will be explored through the four key strands of:
Smart Future Directions
Delegates will be inspired and challenged to consider how we as a profession, and as individual practitioners, can best contribute to the successful and sustained future of Australians at all stages of the lifespan and their employing businesses and industries.
Smart Career Development Initiatives
This sub-theme will capture current best practice career development initiatives within all sectors of the career development profession and with clients at all stages of the lifespan.
Smart Exchanges between business and industry
As Career Development Practitioners, we need to be aware of the needs of the businesses and industries that our students and clients will work within. And we need to effectively communicate the value our professional input has for those same businesses and industries. Smart exchanges are two way communications, each learning the language of the other and working together to achieve value-adding and sustainable outcomes for all involved.
Smart Research
The Conference also provides a forum for the presentation of eminent research in the careers field.
Are you ready for something new in the conference format?
- what about something interactive, engaging, informative, empowering and fun?
- what about an experience where you can engage, participate, contribute, question and challenge?
Well Melbourne 2009 is the conference for you. This will be a highly interactive conference experience where delegates will not only get the opportunity to listen to, and be inspired by, leading Australian and International practitioners but also to actively participate in a range of innovative forums. There will be facilitated opportunities to interact with leading practitioners and their messages, to contribute your thoughts and experiences and to engage with success stories. Key features will be:
World Café style conservations that matter with leading Australian and International practitioners
On-the-Couch interactive interviews with a range of people from the career development profession, education sector and business and industry (without a PowerPoint presentation is sight!)
High-value industry site visits
